Lenten Journeyers,
Island United folk gathered at Congregational Church of San Mateo with Congregational Church of the Peninsula and College Heights UCC for Ash Wednesday. The bilingual service was a powerful moment of solidarity with our churches, and, in particular, the Ministerio Latino ICSM community. And a delicious agape meal followed.
Now we enter into the dark wood to find the gifts offered to us this Lenten season. In what seems to be a messy and uncertain time, the Holy Spirit is gently nudging us to revision our experiences – be they failure, loss, or anything we perceive as negative – as opportunities to let go of all we cannot know and live more fully.
This Sunday we will explore “The Gift of Uncertainty” through a reflection upon 1 Corinthians 13:11-12, Paul’s moment to the church in Corinth where after he writes the well-known statement on what love is. “When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child….”
I look forward to seeing you at 10 am Sunday on 1130 Balclutha, Zoom, or Livestream. Invite a friend to the journey.
Love,
Rev. Michael
P.S. I hope you will consider joining the 7 weeks of Saturday discussion of the Gifts of the Dark Wood book discussion starting this Saturday at 11 am in the sanctuary.
