Love Your Enemies

Say what?

Beloveds,

If you were in the Balclutha room or tuned in via Zoom and Livestream last week, you heard me mention the protest at the Stonewall Memorial over the removal of the ‘T’ from the Stonewall National Monument website, leaving the acronym ‘LGB’. This is an attempt to erase the existence and visibility of our Trans siblings. Unfortunately, lacking an understanding of history, perhaps internalized homo/transphobia, there are members of the LGB community who are complicit in this attempted erasure.

Regardless of your personal beliefs, why would you try to systematically erase human beings?  Oh, wait, history has already made this movie. No, not movie, atrocity. And in the name of Jesus nonetheless?

And this week the Revised Common Lectionary invites us to look at Luke 6:27-38 “Love Your Enemies”. I have to admit that, in the light of those who mean harm to me and my communities, I am being stretched in my compassion and understanding. Mercy?

As I have suggested before, I invite us to deep introspection in this time before our Lenten journey in the “Gifts of the Dark Wood.” We are launching into difficult journeys for difficult times. Gifts? Beyond this immediate moment, I pray that you will join in the 6-week Lenten reflection toward new life.

I look forward to seeing you on Balclutha, Zoom, or Livestream at 10 am Sunday. Now is the time to invite those who might be in distress or in need of a loving community.

Love,
Rev. Michael
