Travelers on the Journey,
When faced with challenges or choices, sometimes we just need to plow on. Moving forward usually requires us not to look back. Not looking back does not mean to forget. In our growth, it is important to remember and honor what has been learned. But to linger there can keep us stuck in fear of losing what we know for the unknown, preventing us from stepping into our calling.
This Sunday, we will look at Luke 9:51-62. Jesus has his face set toward Jerusalem. He tells those who want to join him that the Chosen One has no place to lay his head. He ultimately says, “No one who puts the hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kin’dom of God.”
In farming, if you don’t keep your eyes forward while plowing, you literally run the risk of creating crooked furrows for planting. In Jesus speak, he is inviting us to look forward to the future we are building. If you are driving your car and always looking in the rearview mirror, you run the risk of missing a turn or crashing and ending the journey. Though following Jesus has no guarantees, we are called to follow. And called to do so joyfully.
I look forward to seeing you Sunday at 10 am on 1130 Balclutha, Zoom, or Livestream as we look at this text of the One who led a revolution. Tell a friend.
Love,
Rev. Michael
