Travelers,
I once asked a seminary sister and colleague how her son was doing. She responded, “Living his best life.” I love the affirmation. The phrase means prioritizing personal happiness, growth, and well-being by making choices that align with your own values and goals, rather than conventional success. This achievement is attained through focusing on passions, cultivating a growth mindset, nurturing meaningful relationships, and taking care of your physical and mental health. This is not a one-time event; it is a continual state of being and becoming.
I believe resurrection is also a continual event. We are constantly awakening to new life and more life. And when we physically leave this life, we become resurrected into eternal life. Throughout Scripture God promises us that wherever we go, God will be.
This week’s reflection Scripture is Luke 20:27-38. In the pericope, some of the Sadducees who don’t believe in resurrection continue attempts at tripping up Jesus. In this event, they pose a convoluted question of a woman’s multiple marriages in this life and the binding to which husband in resurrection. Of course, Jesus turns the tables on them and gives an unexpected answer.
I look forward to reflecting upon this with you at 10 am Sunday on 1130 Balclutha, Zoom, or Livestream.
Yours on the journey,
Rev. Michael
P.S. Please consider inviting friends to the music salon on Sunday afternoon. It’s a great opportunity to share the gifts of IUC.
