Beloveds,
When you saw the title of this week’s letter header and subtheme, you might have thought, “I know this slogan”, as you racked your brain for the connection. Perhaps you found the answer via search engines. Or you immediately remembered Gatorade®. Regardless, good marketing drew you in.
Good marketing – or evangelism – starts with engagement and then sharing a story of that experience. As we continue this journey of week three in Lent, we are offered the story of Jesus’s encounter with the woman at the well. Marcia McFee of Worship Design Studio offers this reflection:
“The Samaritan woman at the well found out that the water she came for was not really the water she needed so desperately. This woman had looked for love in many places, in many faces, and when finally offered a soul-quenching love by Jesus, she became a powerful messenger of Good News. Just as the water given by God that flowed in the desert for the Israelites offered new life, the desert of our lives can be refreshed if we look for love regularly at the well of living water and offer life-giving water to others.”
Have you had your experience at the well? What does that look like, and are you sharing your story that might help to quench the thirst of others?
I look forward to seeing you at 10 am Sunday on 1130 Balclutha, Zoom, or Livestream as we “Look for the Thirst-Quencher” reflecting upon the John 4:5-42 and Exodus 17:1-7 texts.
Invite a friend to the water,
Rev. Michael
P.S. I had mentioned that the UCC News Take Action would provide a link to “Urge Congress to Say NO War in Iran”. It’s a simple less-than-a-minute clickthrough featured after the LifeMoves updates.
