Kindred Harvesters,
This fall, Sonoma and Lodi grapes are shriveling on the vine because no one will buy them. Harvest has come, and there’s no one to receive it.
This week we look at Matthew 21:33-46, where tenants refuse to share a vineyard’s fruit and turn on everyone sent to collect it.
We often picture a distant landowner. But what if God is in the soil and sap, the tenants and messengers, and the whole vineyard is in God? God has been present every season, luring the vines toward fruitfulness, never forcing. The harvest isn’t a tax; it’s life offered back into God’s heart, where nothing shared is lost.
What happens to gifts we hoard? They don’t make us rich. They rot on the vine. Yet the stone the builders rejected becomes the cornerstone. What the market passes over, God keeps gathering up.
What harvest is growing in you? Who is waiting for it?
I look forward to seeing you Sunday at 10 am on 1130 Balclutha, Zoom, or Livestream. Invite a friend to the bounty.
Love,
Rev. Michael
