Beloveds,
As we prepare for the end of the Easter season on Pentecost Sunday and enter into Ordinary Time (“as if”), we come to Ascension Sunday. It marks the completion of Jesus’s earthly ministry and the beginning of his reign at the right hand of God. Imagine being one of the eleven standing before him and listening to his instruction and then witnessing this occurrence. I imagine one of those cartoons where the character rubs their eyes or shakes their head to make sure what they’ve seen is real. D’OH!
And then, of course, I thought of “Up, Up, and Away” by the Fifth Dimension or the theme song “Up Where We Belong” from An Officer and A Gentleman.
This Sunday we will be looking at the Ascension story found in the Gospel of Luke 24:44-53. What does this story offer us today?
I look forward to seeing you at 10 am Sunday on 1130 Balclutha, Zoom, or Livestream. Invite a friend in need of a loving community.
Love lifts us up,
Rev. Michael
